CHAT CLOSED?

Become A Peer Counselor

Our online teen chat service is part of a project established by StarVista’s Crisis Center to offer support and in formation to young people through the website www.onyourmind.net.

Peer counselors are responsible for facilitating live chat sessions with youth during after-school hours. Peer counselors provide youth support around mental health related topics, first-stage crisis intervention, and referrals in the community.

Youth Volunteers must be between 14-20 years of age to volunteer.

This is an IN-PERSON volunteer opportunity. You must be able to volunteer at our site in San Mateo County, CA. Volunteer training to become a peer counselor occurs three times a year: January, May and September. You must be able to meet in person for the training at our San Mateo, CA location. Our volunteer training is 5 weeks, meeting every Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm-9pm, with one Saturday training from 10:30am-12pm.

Volunteer time requirements are at least one 2 1/2 hour shift per week.
