DESCRIPTION : The Mentoring Services program matches at-risk youth age 8-17 with adult volunteers recruited from the community for the purpose of forming one-to-one relationships. Each adult mentor serves as a friend and model to make a significant difference in the young person’s social skills, school performance, self-esteem, and decision-making skills. Adult volunteers also receive support through weekly contacts with a trained program coordinator. Life skills training and support groups are also available. The youth in the program are referred by counselors, therapists, teachers, social workers, and other youth professionals.
